Born in 1979, and brought up in rural Perthshire, Scotland. Lynsey began developing her abilities as an artist from a very early age. At the age of thirteen, she decided she would like to study at Art College, and so enrolled into children’s Saturday morning classes at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee. There she developed her drawing skills, particularly figure drawing, and became familiar with the Art College environment. On leaving school, she spent a year at Dundee College, furthering her portfolio of work, before being accepted into Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in 1997 as a full-time, undergraduate student.

Her four years at Art College were hugely transformative; it was both fulfilling and at times quite daunting as she became fully focussed on her artistic career. After her first year, Lynsey was drawn to study Textile Design, probably because of her interests in colour, texture and pattern. As the year progressed however, it became apparent that something was missing, and she would often visualise throwing paint at a huge, blank canvas. Finally, at the start of her third year of Art College, Lynsey joined the Drawing and Painting Department, as it was then, and her work really took off. During her Textile Design year, she spent considerable time ‘hiding’ in the Botanic Gardens in Dundee. She particularly enjoyed photographing plants in the hot houses there, spending many hours capturing close-up shots of plants. As she moved into the field of Fine Art, these photographs became the inspiration for her paintings. What particularly interested her were the unusual colours that could be found in seemingly mundane-looking plants, when photographed in bright sunlight. As well as the striking contrasts and fusions of colour when the camera lens was knocked off focus. These interests have continued throughout her career to date.

During the summer of 2000, just before her fourth year at Art College, Lynsey had the opportunity to travel with a friend to North Queensland in Australia. There she experienced the rainforest, with all its beauty of colour and dappled light. It made quite an impression on her, and the photographs from this trip became the basis of her final year Degree Show work in 2001.

Lynsey has a successful career, exhibiting her work in a number of galleries and art fairs every year across the UK. Her paintings are held in many public and private collections in the UK, Ireland, Spain, The Netherlands and the USA. Striking, colourful and bold, her work is well recognised and is becoming increasingly sought after. Clients range from art investors, business people and interior designers, to those seeking focussed healing for themselves or family groups through commissioned paintings or simply wishing to bring a splash of colour and beauty to their homes.

Lynsey currently lives in Fife, Scotland and works from her home studio. To view her paintings, please use the Contact page to arrange a studio visit, or see a list of forthcoming exhibitions on the News page.
